Abstract:In this paper, the author Bob Black explores the possibility to abolish work. First, he calls for a play-based life, ludic life, to take over work of which the modern system has caused tremendous harm to people′s mind and body. Then, Black draws on philosophical, sociological and anthropological works to discuss why it is necessary to replace work with ludic life. In the end, he tentatively proposes some approaches to abolish work: to get rid of most work, including most of those in the tertiary sector, especially housework and childrearing, and transform the rest of work into a pleasing variety of game-like pastimes.
